Oxfordshire (Oxon) is a county with a high tourist
interest with its grand castles and palaces, historical
attractions and many fascinating places to visit. One
notable landmark is the 11m long White Horse of
Uffington sculptured into the side of a hill. With deep
trenches filled with chalk, the prehistoric looking
horse is said to date back to the Bronze age.
Oxfordshire (Oxon) was traditionally a farming county,
which began to decline as machinery replaced man power
and large industries moved in such as Morris Motors.
Oxon is known world wide for its University, founded in
1096. With an abundance of small villages, Oxon has six
major towns; Oxford, Banbury, Abingdon, Bicester, Witney
and Didcot. |
